Midday
Youth then engage in a second Facilitator-initiated activity designed to introduce projects and experiences they may not naturally gravitate toward—or even know exist. Past favorites include identifying types of shark teeth, making homemade soft pretzels, working with clay in the art room, and building in the wood shop. These offerings take full advantage of Cupola’s diverse learning spaces.
Following lunch—often enjoyed al fresco!—the day shifts into open-ended, choice-based exploration. Some youth remain outdoors, while others move inside to pursue their interests: sewing, constructing a marble run, working one-on-one with a Facilitator on a math puzzle, imaginative fantasy play, tackling a building challenge, or simply settling in with a book. There’s no single “right” way to spend the afternoon. Each youth follows their spark, building independence, focus, and meaningful social connection.
