Building Skills
Through Connection
Collaborative Pod 1 exposes youth to a range of content areas, from traditional academics like math, science, and writing, to critical life-skills like cooking, wood working, and gardening. Regardless of what topic is at hand, the emphasis is placed on process over product, on conceptually understanding vs. memorizing, and on collaboration over competition. Young people learn how to collaborate, share their ideas, and solve problems together—all while building a strong foundation in applied academics and life skills.
CP1 Program Highlights
✓ Hands-on exploration across science, art, math, literacy, the natural world, and more.
✓ Balance of Facilitator- and youth-initiated learning, encouraging autonomy, creativity, and ownership.
✓ Process Consciousness built into daily routines and collaborative work.
✓ Consistent outdoor exploration and open-ended play, supporting imagination, movement, and connection with nature.
✓ Supportive, pro-social community environment emphasizing communication, conflict-resolution, and teamwork.
✓ Mini-Peer Facilitation (MPF)—a long-term project including a presentation (tri-fold or digital), a written component, and a hands-on creation.
✓ Winter research period for MPF development at both home and Cupola Academy.
✓ Spring MPF presentations that strengthen public speaking, confidence, and project ownership.

Creative Choice+
Some young people just can’t get enough tinkering and exploring—so we offer an extra day just for them!
Creative Choice+ adds a third day of hands-on learning for youth in Creative Choice or Collaborative Pod 1. It’s a chance for deeper art projects, more outdoor adventures, and long stretches of uninterrupted creative time.
