Building Independence
This group is designed to help young people take ownership over their learning path—the storage of work, communication with facilitators, responsibility for assignments from fellow group members and facilitators. The program is intentionally designed to help young people learn how to set goals, reflect on their progress, adjust methodology and ultimately achieve their goal.
CP4 Program Highlights
✓ Hands-on, year-long science and design project—this year’s Pool to Pond transformation of the Cupola property.
✓ Applied math through real-world geometry challenges and collaborative construction in the woodshop and lessons from the Interactive Math Program.
✓ Humanities with Lucy—writing 100-word memoirs, analyzing articles for opinion essays, and performing scenes from Shakespeare for the Cupola community.
✓ A thoughtful balance of facilitator- and youth-led learning, encouraging ownership, creativity, and collaboration.
✓ Outdoor exploration and environmental stewardship integrated into daily learning experiences.
✓ Social-emotional growth through teamwork, group decision-making, and co-created community goals.
✓ Leadership and independence developed through planning fundraisers, setting SMART goals, and designing the group’s culminating overnight retreat.

Deep Dives 1
CP4 youth are eligible for Deep Dives 1, a Wednesday full-day program (ages 9–15, broken into smaller clusters) for extended, project-based work in science, history, and the arts.

Friday Workshops
In addition to our free Community Field Trips that happen on certain Fridays throughout the year, we will be adding Friday workshops, ranging from single day to mini (4-6 week) offerings, for an additional fee. Stay tuned for details!
