Afternoon

Tuesday afternoons deepen mathematical understanding through contextual application and cognitive development. CP4’s approach emphasizes helping youth make sense of concepts by connecting them to real-world projects and logical reasoning.

While determining how long the pond will take to drain, youth explore the relationship between area and volume, practice unit conversion, and use concrete examples to distinguish square units from cubic units. These experiences help bridge abstract ideas with tangible understanding, ensuring concepts are retained and confidently applied.

Youth also engage in structured math activities that encourage them to communicate their thinking. They describe their processes, explain solutions, identify new questions, and reflect on what they learned. This reflective approach strengthens comprehension, nurtures precision and curiosity, and reinforces Cupola’s commitment to developing independent, confident mathematical thinkers.
