Afternoon

Thursday afternoons invite CP4 youth to explore history as a living story shaped by human choices, values, and perspectives. A multiple-intelligences approach honors diverse ways of understanding, whether through art, music, performance, or analytical writing.

Each unit begins with primary source materials, allowing youth to analyze letters, images, and artifacts directly. They interpret these sources and connect them to their own experiences and worldviews. Guided by group curiosity, CP4 will explore the French Revolution, Haitian Revolution, and Industrial Revolution—examining how upheaval reshapes societies and inspires new ideas.

Recent explorations of the American Revolution highlight this approach. After studying letters, artwork, and political documents, youth expressed their insights through watercolor scenes of Valley Forge, photographic recreations of Washington Crossing the Delaware, and parody songs reframing the Declaration of Independence as a “break-up letter.”

By combining inquiry, creativity, and reflection, CP4 youth discover that history is not just the past—it is an evolving conversation about identity, justice, and humanity.
