Midday
CP1 youth then participate in a second Facilitator-initiated activity. These experiences are intentionally chosen to offer something they may not naturally gravitate toward—or that may be difficult to replicate at home. Activities have included learning to crochet, identifying macroinvertebrates under a microscope, tackling logic puzzles, and participating in Service Learning volunteer opportunities.
After lunch—often enjoyed al fresco!—youth flow into open-ended exploration. Some choose to stay outside, while others move indoors to work in small clusters or one-on-one with a Facilitator. Favorite pursuits include hand and machine sewing, collaborative building challenges, captivating science experiments, watercolor painting, and more. There’s no one “right” way to spend the afternoon; each youth follows their spark, building independence and deepening social connection.
Throughout the day, Facilitators cultivate an environment grounded in respect, curiosity, and thoughtful communication. Youth are encouraged to speak up, ask questions, share perspectives, and listen deeply to one another. Conflict becomes an opportunity to practice problem-solving and create win–win outcomes where all youth feel seen, heard, respected, and valued.
